medals catalogued and photographed in black and white.
Preface by the sculptor Guido Veroi -Introduction by Card. Pietro Palazzini.
The volume provides an overview of the medals of Popes Pius X and Benedict
XV (1903-1922), both official exemplars and private and devotional ones.
Both the obverse and the reverse of each medal is reproduced in its original
size, and is accompanied not only by all the technical-descriptive information,
but also by a detailed historical account of the event commemorated.
The volume is completed by an extensive bibliography, a thematic index
of the medals, an alphabetical index of the inscriptions on the reverses,
and an alphabetical index of the artists.

“…The work of Adolfo Modesti and Vincenzo Cusumano is
extremely useful and valuable for various reasons: first of all, for suggesting
an order and an arrangement for the whole extremely rich collection of
medals produced of the Popes of this century, while avoiding the danger
of a schematic survey by providing every single piece with adequate historical
commentary…Elegant printing and rich photographic documentation
lend prestige to the work…”
