Rome 1987 - edited by the author.
In 4° (31.5 x 23.5 cm) - 267 pages - Print run of 300 copies - 367
medals catalogued and photographed in black and white.
Preface by Card. Giovanni Colombo.
The volume provides an overview of the medals of Pope Pius XI (1922-1939),
both official exemplars and private and devotional ones.
Both the obverse and the reverse of each medal is reproduced in its original
size, and is accompanied not only by all the technical-descriptive information,
but also by a detailed historical account of the event commemorated.
The volume is completed by an extensive bibliography, a thematic index
of the medals, an alphabetical index of the inscriptions on the reverses,
and an alphabetical index of the artists.

“…This work by Modesti, introduced by a learned preface
from Card. Colombo, gives a complete picture of the impressive yield of
medals of Pius XI. All the medals known to exist are listed and catalogued
in detail, both those stamped by the Mint or by private works such as
Johnson and Lorioli. The illustrated apparatus is excellent, the text
of irreplaceable value to scholars and collectors, and the bibliography
and the innumerable analytic indexes detailed and painstaking.”
