- Print run of 300 copies -
377 medals catalogued and photographed in black and white.
Preface by Sen. Giulio Andreotti.
The volume provides an overview of the medals of Pope Pius XII (1939-1958),
both official exemplars and private and devotional ones.
Both the obverse and the reverse of each medal is reproduced in its original
size, and is accompanied not only by all the technical-descriptive information,
but also by a detailed historical account of the event commemorated.
The volume is completed by an extensive bibliography, a thematic index
of the medals, an alphabetical index of the inscriptions on the reverses,
and an alphabetical index of the artists.

“This volume follows the two preceding ones on Pius X, Benedict
XV and Pius XI, edited by the same author. The most significant moments
in the long pontificate of Pope Pius are marked by the medals, almost
all of which are included in the present volume, fully documented with
technical and historical information and illustrations. There are official
medals, annual meals and medals stamped by private citizens, and they
make up an important document of a page of Italian history. Apart from
the detailed notes and historical information the volume contains a complete
bibliography, a thematic index and an alphabetical index. The Preface
is by Giulio Andreotti.”
